There are treasures beneath the sea, silent witnesses to our past, tools abandoned by men for their conquests and adventures. A whole armada, sometimes even entire squadrons, lie at the bottom of the oceans. Over the past 100 years, with the advent of metal hulls and then airplanes, shipwrecks have become more resistant to the ravages of time, enabling researchers and archaeologists to better recognize and find them. Some have become multicolored artificial reefs, a refuge for beautiful fish...
It's an exciting world for the model maker. Researching documents and photos on a subject is just as motivating a first step as finishing the diorama. My first project - the wreck of the Titanic in 1995 - was the beginning of a new opening onto the possibilities of historical model building... under the sea... There's one important point to remember: wrecks evolve over time, like the B17 at Calvi, whose cabin roof collapsed a few years ago...
