Many people wonder about this “virus” that affects certain creators, whether in painting, sculpture, writing, film, or—more simply—model making, the poor relation in the artistic world, which involves building and refining scale models based on documents or other sources of inspiration.
Can this activity be considered an art form? But then, what drives us to pursue it? Can’t we just stick to assembling the provided parts and painting as instructed in the manual? Do we want to play at being what some call “God” by recreating the world in miniature? Is it a way to satisfy our ego? Or simply that “itch” to create that drives every artist at heart? To achieve a truly original result—a pursuit that most people don’t understand, since they lack that spark—that little something extra—that allows one to see things and view the world in new ways, and that isolates the artist in his or her own corner?
