In 2003, during the invasion of Iraq, it was transformed into a "Guntruck" - an armored truck - to protect it from "R.P.G." and "snipers". The sides and doors are reinforced with welded iron plates. The latest models feature a fully armored cab and protection for the gunner. The body layout is also modified, and versions vary from one vehicle to another. As with the "Hummer", and like the vehicles used in Vietnam, the situation prompted modifications to ensure effective protection throughout the conflict...
An attempt was made to create a fully armored truck based on an 818 frame - the tires are civilian truck models (?), the body is that of an M113 troop carrier welded to the chassis right up to the dashboard. In Vietnam, on the few vehicles so equipped, the M113s were housed on the truck body, behind the cab...
